In a computer file, a field is a set of digits read as one number. For example the digits 310599 could be divided into fields thus: 3,1,0,5,9,9 or thus: 31, 05, 99.

- Electric Fields: You can examine the field produced by two positively charged particles here by reducing the amount of charge possessed by one of the particles to zero. You can drag the particles around, and you can change the amount of charge they possess. Be sure to have at least 10 lines per charged particle. You should get a good idea of what a field produced by two equal positively charged particles.
- 2-D Electrostatic Field Simulation: Here you can compare the field vector way to show a field and the field line representation . Here's the way to set this simulation up: Setup: dipole; Color: field magnitude; Floor: field lines; Display: Field Vectors. Play with the Field Strength and charge separation sliders.
- Electrostatics Simulation: Use Setup: Double Charge, Mouse = Move Object. Show E lines, Low Accuracy, Deselect Draw Equipotentials , highest Resolution. Of course, you can play with all of these controls. The ones I have chosen is simply to make the electric field line representation of an electric field easier to see. Move the charged particles closer and farther from each other. What happens to the strength of the field between the two particles? What happens to the overall field? What do you have to do to enhance the overall field? to diminish it? Note what happens when the charge separation goes to zero!
